San Diego Jobs with SeaWorld Cut
Several people will soon lose their San Diego jobs (Click here) with a popular theme park.
SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment recently announced that it will eliminate 350 jobs as part of a company-wide restructuring effort. This round of job cuts, which is the first in two decades for the company, will result in about 80 layoffs at SeaWorld San Diego.
SeaWorld currently operates 10 theme and water parks throughout the nation. The company has a peak workforce of about 20,000 employees, with 3,500 to 4,000 of those positions in San Diego, including part-time and seasonal workers.
That means the layoffs will result in a 2 percent decline in both SeaWorld's national employment total and local employment total. According to an article by the San Diego Union-Tribune, all of the employees affected by the company's layoffs are expected to receive severance benefits.
"This restructuring will allow us to operate more efficiently and better position us for long-term growth and independence," Jim Atchison, president of SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment, said. “Our primary goal is to eliminate some of the duplication of responsibility that affects performance, innovation and our ability to execute quickly.
The layoffs are due in part to a 6 percent decline in attendance at SeaWorld's 10 parks and a revenue drop of $200 million. This comes on the heels of The Blackstone Group's decision to purchase the parks for $2.3 billion last year.
SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment owns: SeaWorld parks in Orlando, San Diego, and San Antonio; Busch Gardens parks in Tampa and Williamsburg; Discovery Cove and Aquatica in Orlando; Adventure Island in Tampa; Water County USA in Williamsburg; and Sesame Place in Langhorne.

San Antonio Jobs Created by PETCO
Hundreds of San Antonio jobs are being created by a popular pet store.
The Texas Enterprise Fund recently announced that it will invest $3.1 million in PETCO Animal Supplies Inc. so the company can open a satellite support center in San Antonio. The investment will create 400 new jobs and generate about $17 million in capital.
"This TEF investment in PETCO will create hundreds of jobs, pump millions of dollars in capital investment into the area, and further expand San Antonio's diverse economy," Gov. Rick Perry said. "Companies like PETCO are looking to Texas as the premier location for business relocation, expansion and job growth thanks to our low taxes, reasonable and predictable regulatory climate and skilled workforce."
PETCO, a specialty retail store for pets and their owners, currently has more than 1,000 stores throughout the nation. The company needs to open a satellite support center in order to keep up with its continued growth.
At one point, PETCO considered locating the new center in Dallas, which would have resulted in hundreds of jobs in Dallas TX. However, the company decided to open the center in San Antonio because of the city's reasonably priced real estate, skilled labor pool, and high quality of life.
"After an extensive search for a facility to help us meet our long-term growth requirements, we're thrilled to select San Antonio for our new support center," PETCO CEO Jim Myers said. "The Texas Enterprise Fund, along with support from various state, county and city leaders, was an important factor in our decision. We look forward to opening the facility next year and expanding PETCO's presence as an engaged corporate citizen in San Antonio."

Denver Restaurant Jobs for Food Service Helpers
There will be plenty of Denver restaurant jobs (Click here) available for food service helpers in the coming years.
Dining room and cafeteria attendants and bartender helpers typically work as part of a food and beverage serving team. They help waiters, waitresses, and bartenders by cleaning and setting tables, clearing dirty dishes, keeping serving areas stocked with supplies, and bringing meals and drinks to patrons.
Because these jobs are considered to be entry-level and employees learn the majority of what they need to know through on-the-job training, most employers don't require applicants to have any significant amount of education, although some do prefer to hire those with a high school diploma.
There were about 420,700 dining room and cafeteria attendants and bartender helpers in America during 2008, and jobs in this occupation are expected to grow by 6 percent by 2018, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
There will be plenty of job openings in the Denver area as well, as employment is anticipated to increase by 709 jobs - or an average of 2.1 percent each year, for a total of 3,780 workers by 2019.
