Some unemployed workers may get a break by the end of the year, as the number of
job openings in Tampa Florida is on the upswing.
A recent report from Moody's
Economy.com predicts that the
Tampa Bay area will see a .8 percent increase in jobs between Q4 2009 and Q4 2010. That optimistic outlook could help many of the area's unemployed workers find jobs.
While that's great news, some of the industries that will add and shed workers may surprise you.
The industries expected to increase include:
- Construction - will see an increase of 17.6 percent, which is a promising forecast for one the industries hardest-hit by the economic recession.
- Wholesale trade - will increase by 4.7 percent.
- Retail - should grow by 2.4 percent as consumer confidence increases and people have more money to spend.
- Utilities - should increase by 1.8 percent.
- Financial activities - will grow by 1.3 percent thanks to a stabilizing stock market, industry bailouts and the end of the housing bubble burst.
- Other services - should increase by 2.8 percent as everything from personal care to religious work to repair and maintenance picks up.
- Transportation and warehousing - will grow by 1.1 percent.
- Professional and business services - will increase by .8 percent as more companies begin hiring.
- Education and health services - will increase by .6 percent, which is somewhat low for a so-called recession-proof industry. The main reason for the low increase is that education jobs funded by taxes are in danger of being cut.
The industries that will continue to decline include:
- Information - should decrease by 3.8 percent.
- Government - will drop by 2.8 percent as decreasing taxes result in more government cuts.
- Natural resources and mining - will decline by 2.3 percent.
- Manufacturing - will recede by 1.4 percent.
- Leisure and hospitality - will decline by .9 percent amid an uncertain environmental phase.
So if you've been unemployed for some time now, dust off your resume and start looking (and check out some
resume builders if you need help).
