Tens of thousands of
Austin Texas jobs were added throughout the last year,
ranking the city amongst the best in the nation for job creation.
A recent report from the
U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics ranked
Austin sixth among the nation's largest 100 metro areas in terms of over-the-year job growth. The city added 14,300 jobs between September 2009 and September 2010, an increase of 2.43 percent, resulting in 601,700 jobs.
Only 44 of the largest 100 metro areas added jobs during the last year. Washington D.C. added the most jobs over the year, up by 34,400 workers, followed by Boston’s increase of 21,600 jobs. Dallas and Phoenix tied for third place, adding 21,200 jobs apiece.
The top 10 markets that added jobs during September include:

- Boston
- Dallas-Fort Worth
- Phoenix
- Minneapolis-St. Paul
- Austin
- Cleveland
- San Jose
- Oklahoma City
- Pittsburgh
On the downside, 56 metro areas lost jobs between September 2009 and September 2010. The Chicago area lost the most workers, dropping by 66,000 employees, followed by Detroit’s loss of 30,400 jobs and the San Francisco area’s decline of 26,000 workers.
