Fundraising Jobs Popular Among Volunteers

When it comes to volunteering, fundraising jobs are among the most popular in the nation.

There are a variety of opportunities available for those looking to volunteer. A number of local and national organizations are currently looking for extra help, especially since the economy is still recovering, and most organizations can't afford to pay additional workers.

About 61.8 million people were involved in some form of volunteer work at least one time between September 2007 and September 2008. These volunteers performed a variety of duties, but the most popular were fundraising and tutoring or teaching.

The majority of volunteers performed fundraising work, at 11.4 percent, followed by tutoring or teaching at 10.1 percent; collecting, preparing, distributing, or serving food at 9.1 percent; and engaging in general labor or supplying transportation at 9 percent.

So why volunteer? Aside from the fact that you'll be helping people, volunteer work looks great on college and job applications. And for those who have been laid off, volunteering is a great way to spend your extra time and network with other people.
