The number of

Phoenix area's unemployment rate dropped to 8.8 percent during March, which was even with the national rate at the time. This is good news for the city, which saw its unemployment rate grow from 8.5 percent to 9.3 percent during February.
About 1,705,300 people were employed in the Phoenix-Mesa-Glendale area during March, which is up from 1,698,400 workers during February and a .5 percent increase from last year, according to the U.S.
Bureau of Labor Statistics.

- Financial activities - Added 800 jobs over the month, increased by .4 percent over the year.
- Professional and business services - Lost 3,200 jobs over the month, decreased by 3.5 percent over the year.
- Education and health services - Added 1,600 jobs over the month, increased by 6 percent over the year.
- Leisure and hospitality - Added 4,600 jobs over the month, increased by 2.9 percent over the year.
- Other services - Added 100 jobs over the month, decreased by 3.9 percent over the year.
- Government - Added 200 jobs over the month, decreased by 1.3 percent over the year.
