A recent report from the
Behavior Research Center found that residents in
Arizona are still skeptical when it comes to jobs and the economy. Consumer confidence measured by that survey came in at only 51.9 percent, which is down from 62.8 percent during January.
This is bad news for those with

However, the latest employment figures show that the statewide economy is slowly improving, with the unemployment rate continuing to fall and
jobs being added on both a monthly and yearly basis.
During March, Arizona's unemployment rate fell to 9.5 percent after remaining at 9.6 percent for four consecutive months. Despite that decrease, however, the state's rate was still higher than the national average at the time of 8.8 percent.
According to the
U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Arizona employed a total of 2,385,300 workers during March, which is up from 2,381,800 workers during February and a .1 percent increase from last year.
The poll found that:
- 59 percent of residents think jobs are hard to get, which is up from 55 percent during January.
- 2 percent of respondents think jobs are plentiful in Arizona, which is down from 5 percent at the beginning of the year.
- 35 percent of people think business conditions are bad, which is down from 38 percent during January.
- 29 percent of residents think fewer jobs will be created during the next six months, which is up from 18 percent at the beginning of the year.
- 12 percent of respondents expect their family incomes to grow during the next six months, which is down from 19 percent in January.
The report is based on answers from a poll of 700 state residents conducted by Phoenix-based BRC.
