A new child developmental center will increase the number of
speech therapy jobs Phoenix has to offer.
Earlier this year, Easter Seals Southwest Human Development opened a new Children's Developmental Center in Phoenix, which is creating new opportunities for speech therapy and other medical professionals.
The center is Arizona's first comprehensive facility aimed at serving children up to five years old who have disabilities and behavioral problems. The
American Academy of Pediatrics has made it a priority to establish coordinated care as the standard.
The new center will offer services that involve both children and their family members, including:
- Speech, occupational, and physical therapy services
- Comprehensive developmental assessments
- A feeding program for infants and young children
- Autism services
- Psychology and counseling services
- Assistive technology services
"Every child and family is unique and deserves a one-of-a-kind plan for coordinated disabilities support," ESSHD CEO Ginger Ward said in a statement. "Our 'One Child, One Family, One Team' approach is a blended health, developmental and mental health model, and is the first-of-its-kind Arizona."
Terrence Matteo, Ph.D., will serve as Director of the Children's Developmental Center, while Trudi Norman-Murch, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, will serve as co-director of services for children with disabilities. The project is being funded in part by a three-year, $500,000 grant from the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust.
